The Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency issued a warning Tuesday about fraudulent notices being sent by someone posing as an agency official.
The notice requires that payment be made before goods can be released.
“This illegitimate document can be recognized by the source’s use of an outdated CQA logo, digitally superimposed stamps, the forged signature and unofficial title of an agency representative, and no use of the official CQA letterhead,” the warning stated. “We want to make clear this document is not sanctioned, approved, or endorsed by CQA.”
The agency advised the public not to act upon notices that are not officially released through recognized channels.
“Furthermore, we highly encourage the public to avoid interaction and communication with the individuals behind such scam activity,” the waring stated,
